A mental illness is a brain physical illness that causes thought, action, energy, or emotional disturbances that make it difficult to deal with the ordinary challenges of society. If we observe in the society then we come to know that the people with any psychological or mental problem do not come forward confidently for the treatment of any issue. Mental health is a topic that gets stigmatized so often in our society. If someone is having a mental health issue, they are less likely to get help because of that stigma and shame. And this perception damages his health a lot. We have to change this perception that if any person has any mental illness for example depression then it does not mean that his life is ended and he is a mental patient. We should cure his illness with great support and should not discourage them.

Mental health is very important. When we take care of our mental health then if anything bad happened in our lives, we will face it with great courage and will recover soon. Unfortunately, suicide rates rise when mental health is neglected. Mental health is important because it affects everything. It affects our ability to cope, adapt, and solve problems. It also affects our ability to be happy, productive, and well adjusted. If someone had cancer, we would not blame them for this disease in their bodies. So why do we place stigma and blame on mental health issues in the brain? Mental illness matters just as much as any disease, and it can take one’s life as easily as any other. Depression, for example, can lead to suicidal thoughts and if untreated, suicidal attempts. We are not balanced people if we only focus on physical health.

We, the students of Amal Academy, realized the abysmal state of society regarding mental issues. And, we decided to play our part to resolve this issue. In our mega project “Mental Health is a Priority!”, we will spread awareness about the psychological problems among the people and help them how they can get rid of this illness. We will conduct sessions on zoom and explain the symptoms of any mental illness to the people and also discuss many treatment methods. We will help them to contact well-known psychologists for further in-person therapies. But first, we will cater to it on a personal level. so in this way, our project will be very helpful for the people who are unable to recognize their illness properly.

Our plan to achieve:

The objective of “Mental Health is a Priority!” is to:

  • spread awareness about the mental health
  • Encourage the people to come forward for treatment
  • Help to recognize their issues
  • Developing a social media platform
  • Target the Audience

Actions we took

After carefully planning a business canvas model, and having it approved by our facilitators, we conducted a virtual meeting to formulate an action plan. We approached the Audience through social media links and groups. So our first step is to collect the audience as much as we can who is facing any minor or major mental issue.

Division of tasks

Since we mega circle members belong to different cities, we divide the tasks accordingly. That’s why we chose this topic because everyone can participate on their own level. We were 7 members in our circle. But, three of them left the fellowship because of their other workload and commitments. Now, we are left with 4 members.

  • One of us is working on the development and handling of the social media platform.
  • One of us took the responsibility of contacting the Audience and giving information about the sessions.
  • One of us is handling the zoom meetings and links.
  • One of us is working on the material which we are going to share with our Audience during the meeting.

Challenges we faced:

As we all realize, beginners have to face unexpected challenges. So we did face them. From losing our team members to gaining the trust of people, we had a lot of emotional breakdowns. Each time we gathered energy again and started working with the same enthusiasm and passion. We also face challenges while contacting the people and motivate them to contact our team for any psychological issue.

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

Future plan

After getting feedback, we will evaluate the areas of improvement and will incorporate the feedback into our work. As we are well aware that the people who are facing any mental illness do not come forward for treatment. So we will shape such an organization that will work for the betterment of the mental health of the people.
